live at the libra room

Monica Lee is a charismatic performer who moves effortlessly from piano to guitar, and takes audiences hostage with haunting melodies on her viola. Her powerful vocals, moving lyrics, and soulful delivery have drawn a passionate following – and continually evoke comparisons to esteemed songstresses Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Tracy Chapman and Carole King.

2008
Backed by talented collaborators Michael Simpson (percussion) and Jesse Waldman (guitar), Monica draws freely from the great melting pot of music – roots, blues, rock, jazz, country and gypsy too. Together, they create an eclectic fusion that feels both classic yet excitingly new.

Every Thursday night for the past three years, the Monica Lee Band has been pulling heart strings and shaking the rafters as resident band at Vancouver’s Libra Room. The band’s latest CD, The Monica Lee Band Live At The Libra Room, captures the dynamism of these epic live shows – including a confirmed penchant for improvisation. Of the CD’s 10 original tracks, four were written live on stage. The CD also includes three bonus Ipod-ready videos of the band’s live Libra Room performances.
