For the past three years, The Monica Lee Band has been a featured weekly entertainer at Vancouver’s Libra Room. It has drawn an enthusiastic following, and regularly packs the house. The Monica Lee Band also enjoys the distinction of being the longest consecutively-running act in the popular Commercial Drive venue, and one of the only regular gigs in the city that plays original music almost exclusively.
Lee collaborates with highly skilled musicians Michael Simpson (percussion) and Jesse Waldman (guitar) to deliver exhilarating live shows. They’re full of lush piano, soaring guitar, entrancing strings, solid rhythms and rich harmonies — all wrapped around melodies that catch and resonate for days in listeners’ memories. Whether enticed to sit down and listen or moved to get up and dance the night away, audiences are always deeply touched.
Monica Lee is a Vancouver-based singer-songwriter with a gypsy-soul voice, a poet’s lyricism, and a natural command of piano, guitar and viola. Her inspirational songs of love, pain and redemption dip freely into roots, jazz, blues, country, indie rock and a hint of gypsy. Her voice, lyrics, stage presence, soulful delivery have evoked comparisons to such esteemed songstresses as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Tracy Chapman and Phoebe Snow.
